Seeds We’ve Planted: Growth, Connection, and What Comes Next

Spring is in full swing, bringing a season defined by growth, renewal, and momentum. At The Salem Pantry, that energy is everywhere. The seeds we’ve planted are taking root and growing into something we can see and feel every day.

A New Space to Grow

At the start of the year, we moved into our new home, one of the most significant seeds we’ve planted, creating new opportunities to strengthen access to food and build a more responsive food system. With more room to store and distribute food, the building will help increase the amount of food reaching neighbors, support expanded programs, and improve reliable access to healthy food across the North Shore. It will also become the future home of a second Market, where neighbors can shop with open doors.

Throughout the year, we will continue building out large-scale fridges and freezers, along with a dedicated volunteer area. Every detail is designed with intention, and we are excited to see how this building will make a difference for our community.

Raising Our Voices

Growth also means showing up in new ways. As policies continue to shape federal programs like SNAP and WIC, impact access to locally grown food, and influence the growing realities of food insecurity, The Salem Pantry recognizes that we cannot fully meet our mission without addressing these broader issues. That is why we are continuing to take action alongside coalitions across the Commonwealth, advocating for the right to food and pushing for meaningful change that strengthens access to healthy food for our communities.

This year, we have had opportunities to speak directly with state officials and members of Congress and the Senate about key issues, including SNAP benefits and MFAP funding. These conversations matter, and we will continue to share what we are hearing while lifting up the real experiences of our neighbors to help shape policy that addresses the root causes of food insecurity.

Growing Our Team

This year has brought exciting growth to our team. We’ve expanded to 18 team members, welcoming six new colleagues who will help us deepen our impact.

These new team members will be part of the daily experience at The Salem Pantry, greeting neighbors at The Market, coordinating home delivery and medically tailored food box delivery, and working closely with our food hub partners. Their work will help ensure that our mission continues to move forward with strength and focus, and we are excited to welcome them into this growing community.

Powered by Partnerships

Much of the momentum behind The Salem Pantry’s work right now is driven by strong partnerships.

The Truck is working in coordination with local partners in Salem, Lynn, Peabody, Danvers, and Beverly to distribute food directly to our neighbors. At the same time, our food distribution hub supports the receiving, storing, and transportation of food to partners across Essex County. Soon, our farm partnerships will be in full swing, helping ensure that locally grown produce reaches communities across the region.

One partnership we are especially excited to continue building is our collaboration with Mass General Brigham, Community Care Cooperative (C3), and The Greater Boston Food Bank. Together, this work has allowed us to help deliver medically tailored food boxes to neighbors managing chronic conditions. As the program continues to grow, we are excited to expand support through kitchen supplies, nutritional guidance, and cooking classes.

Each connection is as important as the next. We are excited to build on what is already working, expanding these relationships, and creating new ones!

We are continuing to build, grow, and strengthen every part of our work. With each step forward, we are working toward a clear goal: ensuring everyone has access to the food they need.Because at the center of all this growth is something simple and essential.

The seeds we’ve planted are growing into what matters most: nourishing food for our neighbors.
